So last night, I’m arriving home after work in the evening to find a blue Audi parked in my parking spot. Anyone who lives in the downtown core of a city knows full well that parking space is tight, and you just can’t park in someone else’s spot (unless it’s only for a couple minutes). Needless to say I checked my building to see if it was anyone visiting, it turned out to be no-one in my building. Just to explain I live in a house so it’s only four apartments, with two parking spots out front.
I waited for a while to see if the person was going to come back to their car and move, it just wasn’t happening. I finally called my Landlord and requested that he call the city and have Bylaw enforcement come by and ticket and tow the little juvenile. Well they did come and they did ticket but they would not tow the car as the spot is not clearly labeled as being mine. For example it does not say parking spot: 2, nor does it state on my lease that I have that particular spot, it just says I have parking. So for legal reasons I was thwarted and left it at that…
At 2:20 AM awoken by loud music, I peer outside my bedroom window and what do I see? The idiot that parked in my spot is back and is just “chilling”, not a care in the world. I’m pretty fumed at this point and hustle outside for a reprimand. I go up to the car and knock on the guys window…nothing…again I knock…still being ignored, now his buddy that was on the stoop next door comes over and has the audacity to ask me if there’s a problem. Well you can imagine what I told him, twofold – parked in my spot for an indefinite amount of time and I’m parked way down the street – playing loud music in your illegally parked vehicle outside my bedroom window. I was ready to kick some ass, anyhow I asked that they move the car etc… After much deliberation they casually stuck their ticket back on the windshield and headed back inside next door. Now I’m pissed, I had already called the police and being in a city that has the most cops per capita in all of Canada I’d figure they’d come quickly (kinda). Nope not a chance in hell, an hour and a half later they show up, I give them the story, they try and get the guy out of the apartment, he’s not answering, nothing the cops can do. Again, thwarted at every move…
It’s now 5:00 AM, I’m tired, pissed off and just a little bit frustrated that my spot isn’t clearly defined with the sayso on my lease cause the little miscreant would’ve been towed hours ago. This morning I awake only to find out that, yeah…the guy’s still there. My car’s parked out on the street and it’s now ticketing season (between 7-5), so I have to be careful.
I got on the phone again with my Landlord, explained about the legalities side of things and how we could rectify it. Good to his word he showed up with a new copy of the lease and on top of it went next door and reamed those two little shits out and gave them a severe warning, not so much a warning as a promise! WAY TO GO!! So my Landlord was more effective than any ticketing, baton wearing, gun toting officer!
Got to work late today, fine with me, feel like crap today. But if I get home tonight to find Goldi’lock’s parked in my driveway again it will be a night to remember!
