Last week I was in need of calibrating the air pressure in my car tires. With the sudden fluctuation in temperature they had lost some air. Normally I find the task of pumping up the car tires somewhat tedious. First you have to check the air pressure, put some air in and then check it again repeating said steps until you get the pressure right. Having to do that task in minus twenty degree weather without any gloves on is not fun.
Last week I stopped by the Petro Canada on the corner of Bronson and Somerset St. and was pleasantly surprised to find they had a digital automatic tire calibrator. Sounds fancy doesn’t it? I’ve used these before but not in this city as I had yet to come across a gas station here that had one. I can only hope that they become commonplace and all the gas stations upgrade to using them.
All you have to do is preset the amount of tire pressure you want and then attach the air pump to the tire valve. It then checks the current pressure and adds the required amount of air to increase or decrease to the preset tire pressure you entered. It beeps when it’s complete and flashes a red light and that’s it. There’s no messing around with the pump and then a tire pressure gauge and so on. It’s quick and painless!
