Mary Beth and I went out last week and purchased a new DVD player. We ended up buying a Philips DVP5982 at Best Buy for $99 CAD. For some reason Best Buy doesn’t have it listed on their website* but you can view the full specs here on Philips website.

Strangely enough for having gone out and purchasing a new DVD player I couldn’t even care less if it actually played DVD’s. The main feature about this DVD player that I was excited about was it’s USB direct functionality. This makes life so much easier and saves untold hours of transcoding and burning DVDs. From home video to slide shows, photos, mp3s, tv episodes and downloaded movies you can just copy it to your USB flash drive, plug it in and enjoy!

The Philips DVP5982 has an HDMI digital video and audio connection and allows for High Definition video (720p / 1080i/1080p). It also supports, MPEG1, MPEG2, DivX 3.11, DivX 4.x, DivX 5.x, DivX 6.0, DivX Ultra compression formats for video and Dolby Digital, MP3, PCM, WMA for audio! It’s a great little player and works wonderfully, I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to purchase a new DVD player!
