Manoa Falls towers 100-feet high in the beautiful rainforest behind Waikiki. A thin ribbon of water flows down the cliff splashing into a shallow rock-lined pool. The hike up to Manoa Falls is well worth it, I think it took us less than 45 minutes to hike up. The drive to Manoa Falls from Waikiki beach is roughly 15 minutes, it’s really easy to get to. Once you get to the base of the mountain you have the choice of parking your car for free along the side of the road or otherwise pay $5 and park it in a lot.
There’s no doubt once you start hiking that you’re on a jungle path and in a rainforest. The path is dense and the vegetation is huge. Little to no sunlight filters through the overhead jungle, the trail is wet and slippery with a good dose of reddish mud. There are signs warning to keep to the path, one if for your own safety and the other to preserve the natural habitat.
We had a great time hiking up to Manoa Falls and would recommend it to others. Bug spray or otherwise long pants and sleeves are recommended. I also saw a lot of people hiking up in flip flops and other types of lacking footwear. I would advise to wear hiking shoes/boots or otherwise sturdy shoes/sneakers with good grip.
