Right of way

Now it’s no surprise that there are lots of bad drivers out there.  Driving is one of the most dangerous things people do everyday.  In addition walking is one of the most dangerous things pedestrians do everyday by the very nature of how bad some people drive.

Today I went for a walk after work and as I approached an All-Way Stop there was a car waiting to turn right at the corner where I was going to cross.  As I reached the curb there was no gap in traffic that the car could turn into so I started to cross.  Once I was in front of the car it started moving and I thought, WOW this guy really isn’t paying attention.  Luckily he had the window rolled down so I put my hand down on the hood and said “What are you doing?”.  The guy shrugged his shoulders with an “I meant to hit you” look on his face.  I took the time to let him know that I had the right of way.  I don’t think he cared much since he tried to hit me on purpose in the first place.

Most people don’t realize that in Ontario at any rate the signs such as Yield and Stop signs do not apply to pedestrians.  They only apply legally to road-users.  The only intersections where pedestrians have to obey the same signs as vehicles are intersections with lights.  Well, I have survived yet another day, lol.
