E-tickets when they first came out almost a decade ago were a bit of a joke. The “E” of course stands for Electronic and the term electronic usually describes something that has very little or nothing to do at all with paper. This was not the case with E-tickets for many years since they were first introduced. Travel agencies printed at least two full sheets of paper for their own records and then the customer has to print their “E-ticket” and boarding pass once they received the email. E-tickets were using as much paper as traditional travel tickets.
For the first time this past weekend I travelled using no paper whatsoever. My E-ticket and boarding pass were emailed to me and I was able to display that email on my iPhone 3GS to security and agents at the airport and on the plane to board. It was great, so much easier and I really hate using paper.
