I waited for M to get home so she could have the honours of  unpacking and hooking up the Nintendo Wii.  We had fun playing it tonight before heading out to the gym.  After a quick workout we headed out to the Real Canadian Super Store and picked up another Wii controller bundled with the Wii Play game.  It was a good deal, bananas and a loaf of bread included it came to $60.15 and all we paid was the 15 cents.

You gotta love PC points and getting stuff for free, it’s awesome!

They have a deal going on where if you trade in 5 items that have a trade in value of $8 or more you can get the Nintendo DS for free. M and I still had her old Gamecube lying around, two controllers, a memory card, around 8 games or so and a couple of old Xbox games.

I brought it all in with me to EB games and had them tally it up. At first the guy told me we would have a $95 credit. I could use it right away or otherwise get it put on a card and use it later. Not surprisingly the entire Gamecube system including two controllers only has a trade in value of $10. Regardless with everything I brought in and the trade in promotion applied I got the Nintendo DS for free which is a value of $129.99 plus taxes.

I purchased one game for it which is classic, Super Mario Bros. You just can’t go wrong with that. It’s going to be like the good old days playing that game. I’m going to get started right now and have some fun.

That’s actually a joke but precludes a fortuitous event I’ll now describe. This morning when I was on my way back from dropping Chitty off at the clinic I needed to stop and get gas. Driving this morning was slow going and I avoided the highway. The clinic is out on Concourse Gate off Colonnade so coming home I took Merivale to Hunt Club, down Richmond to Stone Haven onto March Rd.

I was thinking about stopping at the Sunoco across from Centrum but since I was going to pass a Sunoco on March Rd I stopped there instead. I got out of the car, pumped in $15 of gas and headed in to pay. Lo and behold, there lying in the snow was a nice crisp $20 bill. There was no one else around that could have dropped it so I claimed it. They say one person’s loss is another person’s gain and that’s exactly how it played out today at Sunoco. Sure glad I stopped for gas there today!

]]> http://www.jonocono.ca/ramblings/2007/04/03/free-tickets-on-air-canada/feed/ 0 Beyond my expectations http://www.jonocono.ca/ramblings/2007/03/14/beyond-my-expectations/ http://www.jonocono.ca/ramblings/2007/03/14/beyond-my-expectations/#comments Thu, 15 Mar 2007 03:44:29 +0000 Jono Cono http://www.jonocono.ca/ramblings/2007/03/14/beyond-my-expectations/ Well today was quite the day it was rainy and overcast with a thick fog starting in the early afternoon.  I believe that was on account of both the rain and warm temperatures causing all the snow and ice to thaw.  But it just wasn’t just raining outside it was also raining inside…money that is.  As soon as I got to work today my manager scheduled a meeting with me and I had my review and we then discussed my pay raise and bonus.  Wow, it went beyond anything I was expecting and I’m quite amazed!  That’s by far the best pay raise and bonus I think I’ve gotten in my life so far, hope the trend continues.

On another note this evening I went to Loblaws Superstore down in Westboro to pick up a few groceries.  While I was there I decided to finally redeem some of my hundreds of thousands of PC points.  They’ve been collecting for a while and I hadn’t really thought about using any of them until I became in need of a new rice pot.  The rice pot I’ve had for many years has finally reached the end of it’s useful life.  I saw at Loblaws a few weeks ago a really nice large rice pot/steamer.  It’s shiny silver on the outside with a digital blue back lit display.  A non stick rice bowl, steaming tray, and serving spatula is included.

As far as prices go this one was pretty standard for a rice pot that fancy, about $50.00.  I’m quite happy with the first purchase I’ve made with my PC points and I’m sure I’ll enjoy for years to come.  I do love my rice, in fact I love PC points!  They are so easy to accumulate and well worth your while when you consider all the things you can get for free with them.  I think I’ve had my air miles card for eleven years now and may possibly have enough points to get free movie tickets.  How sad is that?  Yah PC points, boo air miles!

I can’t wait and am so excited for Friday to get here. This is going to be my first trip to New York City and even better it’s an all expenses paid trip courtesy of 105.3 Kiss FM in Ottawa. The weekend is going to go by like a blur and since I’ll be visiting the city that never sleeps I’m sure I’ll need plenty of that by the time I get home. I find it amusing that I’m going to visit a city that including the metropolitan area has almost two thirds the population of Canada. I’m probably going to see more people in three days then I see in a whole year up here in Canada. Yup we’re a desolate land up here, tons of empty space with a few people here and there.
