I got to the point where sitting on my wallet was getting annoying. It’s uncomfortable and laden with cards I barely use if it all. Anyone who specializes in health or fitness will tell you sitting on a wallet is bad for your back and hips. It makes sense, it’s a cause of imbalance and an unnecessary one.

It took some shopping around to find a good front pocket wallet. I found out about The Rogue Wallet Company during my online search.  Compared to everything else I was able to find online which wasn’t much they seemed to have the perfect blend of functionality, design and quality that I was looking for.  Their wallets also have a unique patented cut to fit perfectly in your front pocket.

I ordered the the original black Rogue Wallet with satin leather.  It really is a finely made wallet with a beautiful cut and finish.  It has a great feel and with the radius it fits perfectly in your front pocket.  The ID thumb slot is a nice touch and it easily holds all the cards I really need on a daily basis.  Even with the front pocket wallet fully loaded it’s still less then half the thickness of my original wallet empty.  If you haven’t done it yet I’d recommend switching to a front pocket wallet.

I did some reading on creating traps for Earwigs and how to get rid of them.  One of the methods was putting out a low can/container of vegatable oil and apparently they’ll crawl in and die.  I’m not sure why Earwigs are attracted to oil but we unwittingly found out it works well.

We had cleaned out the grease catcher on our BBQ and forgot the can outside for about a week.  When I went to pick it up it was full of dead Earwigs and pretty gross looking.  I think I’m going to put a can with vegtable oil outside by the front door and hopefully trap all the Earwigs before they make their way inside.

Watching probably isn’t the best word as it’s more checking intermittently when I check my mirrors.

I find that most people don’t look far enough up the road while they’re driving. For instance if I see a car parked up ahead in my lane I change lanes early so it’s not an issue. As I’m driving along I’ll check my mirrors to see how long it takes cars behind in the other lane to also change lanes. Most people don’t switch lanes until the last moment.

Tonight as I was driving back into Kanata there were lane closures just after Bayshore where the 416 dumps out onto the 417. As I look up ahead I can see a huge lit sign that says “LEFT LANE CLOSED”. I switch lanes early only to continually watch people drive up the left lane so that they can cut in front of everyone else. Doing such a thing only slows traffic down even more making people wait. If everyone left a little more space and merged earlier traffic would keep flowing and no one would have to stop. That would of course make it to easy. People who drive down a lane knowing that it’s closed or ends just to try and cut in front of people are just making slow traffic even slower.

There was some crazy weather that rolled in as per usual mid afternoon. Thunder and crazy lightning along with some flash flooding ensued. The power went out in various places in Kanata and some of the intersection lights went to flashing reds or were out. At this particular intersection however all of the lights were stuck on. Each light system for each lane (there are 16 lanes) had all of their lights stuck on. It was the oddest thing to see on approach with all of the lights red, amber, green all at the same time. Thankfully there was a police officer taking control and directing traffic. People are bad enough when it comes to reverting to the rules of an all way stop at an intersection with lights out or flashing red. You throw on all the lights at the same time and it’s like a scene out of an action movie.

The way Prism works is that you set the URL and the name for the website.  You can then choose your own icon or use the default.  Prism will place an icon in either the Start menu, Desktop, Quicklaunch bar or all 3.  Let’s say that you always use web mail.  Instead of having to open a browser window, browse to the site and sign in you could access you web mail much like any other application on your system.  Just click the icon set up by Prism.

This is where I begin to dislike how Prism works.  I hate clutter and have no icons on my desktop at all.  I also do not like using the Start menu to open all the programs I use the most.  I use RocketDock to open all my programs, utilities and also favorite websites.  If I were on my blog, had my email open, surfing the web, listening to music online etc. I would need to have four windows open using Prism instead of having one instance of Firefox open.  It just doesn’t make sense for me.

At any rate I have uninstalled Prism and can’t ever see myself using it.  I don’t really like Desktop integration and prefer not using my Desktop at all if possible.  It’s just too messy, it’s like using your bedroom floor to throw your clothes when they could be all nicely hanged in the closet.

Prepare for the future English folks :)

The European Commission has just announced an
agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union
rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government
conceded that English spelling had some room for
improvement and has accepted a 5-year phase-in plan
that would become known as “Euro-English”.

In the first year, “s” will replace the soft “c”.
Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with
joy. The hard “c” will be dropped in favour of “k”.
This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have
one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond
year when the troublesome “ph” will be replaced with “f”. This will
make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling
kan be expected to reach the stage where more
komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double
letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate
speling.  Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent
“e” in the language is disgrasful and it should go
away.

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as
replasing “th” with “z” and “w” with “v”.

So what do you do when your shower drain is clogged to the point that you’re ankle deep in water by the time you’re done showering? Do you take off the drain cover and reach in bare handed and all to drag out whatever combination of sludge and hair has accumulated? Do you use draino or other harsh chemicals to dissolve and wash away the muck? Or do you opt for the non chemical solution using those blasters that are supposed to unclog your drain? I tend to opt for the non chemical solution and was recently in need of cleaning out the shower drain. I went out and purchased a can of non chemical blaster that was guaranteed to work or your money back. Sounded like a good deal so I went for it, brought it home and followed the directions exactly. Well, guess what…it didn’t work. A one time use, purchase price of $7.00 and I still had a clogged drain. The unfortunate part is that the night I attempted that coincided with garbage day the following morning and the can was inadvertently thrown out.

Now I’ve always read stories before about Pepsi and Coke and how you can sadly enough use them for various industrial purposes. I’ve heard how they’ll strip rust off of nails, make your toilet shine, clean pavement and concrete etc. Having some cans of Pepsi lying around I thought I would give it a go, I mean it’s a very affordable alternative. So I took a can of room temperature Pepsi and promptly poured it down the shower drain this morning. It fizzed and bubbled and I let it be for an hour or so and then flushed it with hot water. Well, I’ll be damned that one of the most popular beverages on the planet cleaned out my shower drain better than a $7.00 can of drain unclogger did. My shower drain is no longer clogged, all thanks to a warm can of Pepsi. Go figure!
