Wed, 25 Aug 2010 23:30:16 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.0.1 Chitty got spayed http://www.jonocono.ca/ramblings/2007/12/18/chitty-got-spayed/ http://www.jonocono.ca/ramblings/2007/12/18/chitty-got-spayed/#comments Tue, 18 Dec 2007 20:33:11 +0000 Jono Cono http://www.jonocono.ca/ramblings/2007/12/18/chitty-got-spayed/ Today started earlier than usual for myself.  I finally brought Chitty into the Ottawa Spay and Neuter Clinic this morning.  Driving was delightful and took a long time… I expected no less.  I had never been to the clinic before and had some difficulty finding it.  Finally I dropped her off around 8:00 AM and went back to pick her up at 1:30 PM.  She’s a little disoriented right now but moving around and taking it easy.  I’m glad she’s finally spayed, she had been going into heat every 3 weeks and started going into heat again yesterday.   When she goes into heat it’s four full days of clingy, noisy, slightly annoying Chitty.

I had originally visited a vet in Kanata and asked them how much it would be to get her spayed and they quoted me almost $400.  They obviously cater to a different crowd, one with extra money that needs to be bilked from them.  I however know better and called a few other places.  It turns out that the Ottawa Spay and Neuter Clinic is quite good, the grand total was only $111.

Apparently some people’s pets were dying within a few days from eating the food in question. That’s a scary thought so we checked the product information concerning the affected cat food products being recall and were greatly relieved when the cat food we’re using wasn’t on the list.  I’ve included an excerpt from the press release and further below I’ve included the links where you can match up the pet food you’re using with the recalled products.  I’d recommend checking it out, if you or a friend or family member own a pet!

Menu Foods Income Fund (the “Fund”) (TSX:MEW.UN) today announced the precautionary recall of a portion of the dog and cat food it
manufactured between December 3, 2006 and March 6, 2007. The recall is limited to “cuts and gravy” style pet food in cans and pouches
manufactured at two of the Fund’s United States facilities. These products are both manufactured and sold under private-label and are
contract-manufactured for some national brands.
Over the past several days, the Fund has received feedback in the United States (none in Canada) raising concerns about pet food
manufactured since early December, and its impact on the renal health of the pets consuming the products. Shortly after receipt of the first
complaint, the Fund initiated a substantial battery of technical tests, conducted by both internal and external specialists, but has failed to
identify any issues with the products in question. The Fund has, however, discovered that timing of the production associated with these
complaints, coincides with the introduction of an ingredient from a new supplier. The Fund stopped using this ingredient shortly after this
discovery and production since then has been undertaken using ingredients from another source.

That lovely little pure white beast I fondly call Chitty, also known at Chogoodle had a go at my Jade plant.  I suppose in retrospect it was to be expected as it was on a lower table.  It’s now been moved out of reach although it’ll be interesting to see how it grows.

I know it sounds unusual but I love my little Chogoodle! Sooo, you’re wondering what the heck a Chogoodle could possibly be! It’s quite simple really, here’s how it all happened.

 

Mary Beth and I got a pure white little kitten on New Year’s eve. We ended up calling her Chitty because that’s how I refer to all cats and it just made things easier. Having said that, it doesn’t really matter what you call a cat because they only come when they damn well please.

As we soon found out little Chitty liked to play fetch, she would actually go chasing stuff and carry it back in her mouth to us. Another habit she took up is jumping up on the toilet bowl seat and using the bowl as her drinking facility. Seeing as how both of these things are most notably inherent in dogs, I started calling her Choggy [half Chitty, half Doggy].

Last but not least, the more she grows the more fur there seems to be all over the place and I had jokingly mentioned that we should shave her like a poodle and that would resolve that issue. And then, just when you thought the fun with words would never cease…CHOGOODLE was born, LOL!

I have never used the services of a vet here in Ottawa and ended up choosing one based on proximity. I had made an appointment at the Lansdowne Animal Hospital on Sunnyside avenue in the Glebe (I had found them via an ad on petsmo.com). They were very knowledgeable and friendly sharing lots of important information with me and explaining everything that was being done.

Chitty didn’t enjoy being in her crate going there and coming back from the vet in the car. She was yowling a lot and continually searching for a way out. She behaved well at the vet though and didn’t mind getting her shot. In fact the whole procedure of getting the physical done and the vaccination didn’t take long at all. As a result of getting her shot yesterday she spent almost the whole day sleeping and was very lethargic…spacey almost. Today she’s her normal self and is completely healthy and happy!
