When we arrived it was very busy apparently because of some concert. We were told the wait was going to be an hour which we didn’t mind. We grabbed their pager and told them we would just wait at the bar. We ordered a couple of beers and stood around until a couple seats freed up at the bar. We continued sitting at the bar, having drinks and enjoying each others company. We noticed that the long line of people ahead of us had cleared out and yet our pager still hadn’t lit up.

M went to go talk to the hostess to see what the hold-up was. It turned out they thought we were just going to eat at the bar and had scratched our name off the list. They promptly seated us in a booth and a manager with the initials J.M. came over and offered us either a free drink or appetizer which they would deduct from our bill as an apology. We agreed that would be fine and didn’t push the issue, we were both having a good time at the bar anyhow.

M and I ordered their Valentine special which was delicious, just tasty as could be. We also had their Frozen Raspberry Twister which went down smoothly. At the end they brought us our bill and we noticed there were no deductions as per the manager. On a matter of principle we were disappointed. When it comes to customer service it bodes well to do what you say you’re going to do. The manager should have taken the time to ensure either that the bill was adjusted accordingly or that our waitress had taken care of it. Neither was done and we paid our bill in full which we would have done anyhow, no worries there.

Empty promises aside our meal was good, our waitress was nice and we had a good time. I would still eat there again although I certainly wouldn’t put any stock in what J.M. has to say.

]]> http://www.jonocono.ca/ramblings/2008/02/20/jack-astors-kanata-centrum/feed/ 0 Dim Sum http://www.jonocono.ca/ramblings/2006/09/03/dim-sum/ http://www.jonocono.ca/ramblings/2006/09/03/dim-sum/#comments Mon, 04 Sep 2006 02:14:25 +0000 Jono Cono http://www.jonocono.ca/ramblings/2006/09/03/dim-sum/ Dim Sum was the order of the day, it’s been a while since we feasted on such delicacies.  There was five of us in all that ventured out for Dim Sum and we went to the Yang Tze in Chinatown here in Ottawa.  It was so good, we managed to polish off 27 dishes in the time we where there, savouring every morsel.  As good as it is it really is a good thing that I don’t go too often or otherwise I’d be able to roll myself home afterwards.

It ended up being quite a day for treating ourselves as we also hit up Bubblicity in Chinatown for some bubble tea with tapioca pearls of course cause we wouldn’t have it any other way.  Then to finish off the day we ended up at Pure on Elgin for some delicious Italian Gelato, yummy.  An absolute scrumptuous day!

The burgers are cooked slowly like a steak over the course of twenty minutes during which time I savoured their breaded tower o’ rings dipped in curry mayo and smokey bbq sauce, oh what a delight!  Washing it all down with Canadian Steam Whistle…the scene was set for burger arrival on the table.   And damn that was a fine burger, a burger like no other.  To be sure I’ll be visiting there time and again until I’ve had the good fortune to try everything on the menu.

And vegetarians, not to worry they do actually have veggie burgers so there’s no need to become an omnivore to enjoy the wondrous place that The Works is and continues to be!  Eat and Enjoy!

If it’s not one thing it’s the other… I’m still going to go for a walk and take some pictures…I saw something really funny that I have to go take a picture of and I’ll post it later today.

On Friday I was speaking to one of my clients in the USA and while taking care of business, holding true to my Canadian nature spoke about the weather. At the end of the conversation she signed off by saying “Well, I hope the sunshine comes out for you, because you always bring sunshine to others.” Now that is a very sweet thing to say, it certainly put a smile on my face… but where are your managers and supervisors when people say stuff like that?

A wonderful birthday meal was had at Hot Peppers last night, oh how I love that restaurant. It’s one of my favourites and has earned a special place in my heart. The food is outstanding, it goes far beyond being just tasty, it’s more like flavour art. The atmosphere is very relaxing, and their staff is very attentive and friendly. Anyone who enjoys Thai food will love this place and you have my full recommendation. If you’re going as a group larger then five I would recommend making a reservation.

The Coconut Lagoon serves rich South Indian food from the province of Kerala, it’s much different from the food of Northern India.  Coconut is used in most of the dishes along with many other spices that make the dishes so rich.  There are many traditional Kerala dishes available at the Coconut Lagoon as the chef and owner is originally from this coconut laden province of India.   If you’re in Ottawa or just passing through, you may give it consideration!
