It never seems to fail that (radical) feminists always flog certain topics to death, speaking of death one of those topics is abortion. Now at the root of feminism there is the drive for equal rights and so on and so forth. No issues there, I believe we’re all made equal and should treat each other respectfully and in a dignified manner, that includes unborn babies. I was reading an article today that was written by a feminist where she said… “So listen hard, women. The religious right is taking its place in our government, as Marci McDonald writes in this month’s Walrus magazine. Be afraid. Abortion rights are next. Can we spend less time arguing about minutiae and more time fighting for the welfare of our daughters, please?”

Now I find it hard to see how someone could objectively string together such words and have it make any sort of sense. First of all Religion is put off as being something to be completely afraid of and women should instill fear into their own hearts. In addition to fearing Religion within our government women should also fear that abortion rights are going to become something of the past. What really strikes me is that this is all followed up by stating more time is required for fighting for the welfare of our daughters. Granted we also have to think about future generations but to trumpet abortion rights and the welfare of our daughters in the same paragraph is oxymoronic. Save for all those women courageous enough to carry their lovely babies to term there wouldn’t be so many daughters for whose welfare we’d have to be so concerned about.

There really is only one reason for abortion and its pervasive insertion into our society, and that is SOCIAL CONVENIENCE! That is my opinion based on what I see going on around me, what I hear about, what I read, what people tell me. Of course there are numerous arguments that will attempt to say otherwise, those arguments are always based on bold-faced denial of plain fact, neither biological insights nor logical consistency is important. Convenience is. The thing that always seems to evade comprehension of many is the simplicity of what is right and what is wrong. Abortion has nothing to do with women’s rights and everything to do with completely denying the one intrinsic right we all have, the right to life! A life is a life, no matter what stage, from the moment we’re conceived we grow until we die, physically, spiritually, mentally, emotionally.

But apparently life and the intrinsic right to it has become a complex intricate muddled sort of affairs due to SOCIAL CONVENIENCE. If you plant a seed in the earth does it not start growing before you can see it? Of course, and everything is already in place for it to continue growing and mature, yet should you reach into the earth and pluck out what has been planted you destroy the life that has begun. So, have you ruined a tree, destroyed a life, or does this seed not qualify because it hasn’t been in the earth 3 weeks yet? We cherish our own lives so much, in many instances selfishly so and yet we regard other’s lives with such gross apathy. It’s more than enough to turn one’s stomach when so many people’s hearts have obviously grown cold, hard and black.

Social convenience dictates that one follow a course of action that is narcissistic in nature. One trades in more honourable and just traits for ones that focus solely upon the individual and their wants with wanton disregard for the dire consequences arising from their apathy. It’s always easy to turn one’s eyes outward and cast blame elsewhere, but what lies within manifests without and although people may choose in the short term not to take responsibility for the actions they take the impact will still fall upon them later in life. Not only that but society itself will pay the consequences as well.

I encourage all people to think twice about their actions and not only of their actions but the full consequences that will surely follow. Always be mindful of what the true effect of your action or lack thereof will have on yourself, on others, on society. Think about your own life and the lives of others you know. Think about all the people you love and those who have brought meaning to your life. Think of all the experiences and interactions you’ve had with other people and then think of how different your own life would be if you had never even known all of those people. What if they had never made it because their mothers, either of their own accord or through the encouragement of others around them chose to have an abortion. I have known many people in my life who were adopted, these are people that became close friends and meant something to me. We shared time and space, chatted, hung out and so fabricated a meaningful friendship. And yet their lives could have been so casually discarded save for one decision, someone somewhere had decided to live and let live and I respect that to no end. I understand that we sometimes end up in situations where we’d rather not be and don’t always make the right decisions, but we damn well have to try!

I also understand that many people may not even read this post and many who do may choose to disregard it. This post may even generate more negative feedback then positive but if somewhere sometime this effort of mine saves even one babies life then it’s all worth the effort and a small effort at that!
